Free Strabismus Surgery

The Strabos Institute has performed, since 2015, Strabismus Surgery Task Forces to operate on low-income patients whose dream is having their strabismus corrected. The surgery changes the lives of those patients and their families, bringing better opportunities in professional and social environments.

Surgeries are free for people of all ages and up to 3 minimum wages of family income. Patients are referred by partner institutions, such as UNIFESP and APAE (Rubem Cunha Foundation) as well as Strabos Institute patients. They are screened socioeconomically by completing a form and providing documentation. After the questionnaire is assessed, if the person is eligible, they will be called in for a clinical evaluation to define the most appropriate treatment. If surgery is needed, the institute offers pre-surgical appointments, referrals for exams, surgeries, and post-surgical appointments.
